Skinny-Fat
Which is better: skinny or obesity?
The answer is neither! Both of these conditions
can be very dangerous to your health. The correct
way to think about your body is with a focus on what is
healthy. Not the number on your scale.
Being thin does not automatically give you a health
advantage over an individual who is obese and visa
versa. Everything comes down to body composition.
CNN reports that 2/3rd of all Americans are overweight
and that 1 in three are obese.
So
just how healthy is the remaining 1/3rd? You might
be surprised if you look a little closer.
Many thin people "appear" to be fit, but carry too much
body fat. A condition known as Sarcopenia, which
in layman's terms means muscle and strength loss in
so-called normal weight people. The slang term
buzzing around these days is "skinny-fat".
Our society has placed too much emphasis on what "looks"
appropriate. This is a deadly mistake.
Whether or not we are
healthy
should be our focus, which is only accomplished through
diet and exercise.
Neither diet or exercise should be neglected when
starting and maintaining a fitness program. They
are equally important to your overall health.
